Violin and Viola Duet

Program Notes

drip drop is a micro-piece written for violin and viola. Because it is inspired by the pitter patter of water droplets, the piece is written entirely in pizzicato. The two instruments, while unique, often overlap registers giving some sections the mirage of only having one player. The two sections of the piece are simple and straightforward, yet distinct in direction voice. The first uses retrograde of the phrases to complete its segment, while the second uses more development of motives and a loose AAB structure. Overall, the two sections blend together with a shared use of several compound meters and a strong sense of beat.
