Anna Clyne is an electroacoustic and acoustic composer who works with choreographers, visual artists, musicians, and filmmakers from around the world. She has been composer-in-residence for several orchestras and has received many awards including the Charles Ives Fellowship and the Hindemith Prize. About her compositional style, the New York Times said that she is "A composer of uncommon gifts and unusual methods".
Prince of Clouds is a concerto written for two violins and orchestra. It was nominated for a GRAMMY Award and was commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the IRIS Orchestra, the Los Angelos Chamber Orchestra, and the Curtis Institute of Music. It is a conversation between these beautiful flowing melodies with intricately close harmonies and these very jarring rhythmic bursts of energy. The piece is extremely exciting and I was on the edge of my seat just waiting to see which technique she would employ next and listening to see where the music would go. The Chicago Tribune accurately described it as a piece that one could "listen to again and again and find new things to appreciate each time."

Lavender Rain is a piece written for multiple-track violins. From the album The Violin, Lavender Rain is the last of seven pieces. The project was written in the wake of her mother's death, when she began to learn to play the violin. With the help of some friends, she was able to assemble this album (with options to watch video compilations from Josh Dorman) as a beautiful journey from 2008 to 2009. The piece starts with a note slide and a beautifully placed harmonic. As it progresses, the multiple tracks layer on each other creating beautiful textures and harmonies that seem to flow endlessly together.

Masquerade is a piece written for orchestra. Clyne has a fascination with the London's promenade concerts in the parks and celebrates this curiosity with her Masquerade. Images of not only dancing and music, but also the parties of London's robust eighteenth century life can be heard as her inspiration. While dance-like in sections, bursts of energy can be heard that "quote" what life might have been like in the middle of the city.
