Written in three distinct sections, “Time” explores the different phrases and expectations that surround time’s reputation. The first section is written to emulate the tic-toc nature of any face clock. The three instruments compliment each other as they seek to keep on track with the fast-paced schedule. The conversation between the three start to intensify and finally give way into the second section’s calming “time stands still” vibes. The flute and tenor saxophone perform waves of sound rebounding like an echo. This gently transitions to the third and final section where the piano keeps the steady rhythm as the flute plays in augmentation and the tenor sax plays in diminution. As the two winds rail and pester the piano’s ever steady beat, they all head towards disaster until the piano breaks free, fading away with perfect rhythm.
